Patio Essentials for Summer

Backyard Essentials for Summer

Posted by Fortunoff Backyard Store

It's time to chase the sun.

June 21st marks the first day of summer, but the weather is already warming up. Can you hear the pool calling your name? Now is the time to jump on the summer’s hottest outdoor accessories before we sell out. We’re talking about umbrellas, pool accessories, and so much more. Find our picks for summertime patio essentials below.

For Backyard with Pools:

A floating chair is ideal for peak relaxation while soaking up the sun in the water, but you can never go wrong with a pool noodle. Fortunoff Backyard Store pool toys are made from NBR foam, unlike other brands that often use PVC. The NBR foam is softer and more elastic than PVC. Did we mention it’s anti-bacterial and UV-resistant too? You’re guaranteed years of splashing good fun with an NBR float in your pool, but what about next to it? We’ve got you covered, literally. A market umbrella paired with a couple of chaise lounges offers plenty of UV protection and high-quality relaxation. Add a towel rack to the mix, and your backyard is ready for summer.

Design Tip: Upgrade your chaise to a pool chaise lounger. Our pool chaise loungers are great for use on land or in the pool.

For Backyard with Covered Patios:

Enjoy this season in the shade with an outdoor dining set, a patio seating set, or both! Depending on the size of your patio or deck, you can easily enjoy a five-piece dining set and an outdoor sectional group. You can even mix and match collections and materials.

Teak and polymer patio sets are all the rage for this summer season, so stay on trend and invest in both materials. We love to see an Adirondack seating group complementing a teak dining set. The polymer chairs are easy to move, and the teak dining set becomes an instant gathering place for your guests. It’s an outdoor setup that gives you options. Throw in an outdoor rug to add visual interest, and wha la! You’ve created a defined space for relaxation.

Maintenance Tip: Teak fades to a silvery tone over time. If you want to maintain its natural honey color, seal with our teak sealer.

For Backyard with Green Space to Fill:

Grassy yards make for great blank canvases. When it comes to accessorizing this kind of outdoor space, we recommend prioritizing shade. Pergolas, gazebos or cantilever umbrellas are your best options. Each is big enough to create enough shade for small get-togethers. (Think four to five people around an outdoor dining table.) They also double as a focal point, so make sure your shade device fits your aesthetic and needs.

You can coordinate your umbrella to the color of your outdoor cushions for a cohesive look. Don’t want things to feel too matchy-matchy? Go with a contrasting but complementary hue. With our range of umbrella colors, it’s easy to find a shade you love. Our large cantilever umbrellas can shield a sectional group or an eleven-piece dining set with no issues. Larger groups require more shade. A pergola or a gazebo would be your best bet, so if you enjoy big parties, we recommend investing in multiple outdoor umbrellas or other large shade structures. They will keep your guests and your backyard cool for the summer.

Safety Tip: Strong winds and open umbrellas do not mix, so keep your umbrellas closed when they are not in use!
