Make maintenance a part of your monthly routine, and you’ll have an outdoor furniture set multiple generations can enjoy. Below you’ll find some basic outdoor furniture care instructions for core material types used to manufacture our outdoor furniture sets. These helpful tips will ensure you get the most from your outdoor furniture investment.
Cast Aluminum
Clean frames with mild soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly. Touch up any scratched or exposed metal surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
Aluminum
Clean frames with mild soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly. To maintain the gloss on non-textured finishes, use our 303 Furniture Protectant products, and apply with a soft terry cloth.
Outdoor Wicker
Dust with a clean soft brush to remove visible dirt. Clean with mild soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly.
Teak
Use a mild detergent such as dish soap and a sponge or soft scrub brush to wash the furniture as needed. Never use bleach, a brass brush, a pressure washer, or steel wool on teak outdoor furniture. These items will damage or discolor the surface of the wood. Food stains or other soil or stains that are not removed by this process can be removed using Fortunoff Backyard Store Teak Cleaner.
How to Fix Teak Checking:
What You’ll Need: epoxy glue or exterior wood glue, sawdust, and 120-grit sandpaper.
Step 1: Follow the above cleaning instructions.
Step 2: Mix the glue and sawdust into a paste.
Step 3: Spackle the paste into the crack against the woodgrain.
Step 4: Let dry for 24 hours.
Step 5: Sand and seal. (Repeat steps 3 and 4 as necessary.)
Wrought Iron
Clean frames with mild soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly. Touch up any scratched or exposed metal surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
Polymer
Dust with a soft brush. Clean with mild soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly.
Note: Teak's warm honey glow fades to a sleek sliver when left unsealed. If you wish to preserve the natural honey color of your teak outdoor furniture item then seal your teak furniture with Fortunoff Backyard Store Teak Sealer.
Acrylic Cushions
Outdoor cushions made with solution-dyed acrylic fibers offer a range of resistances that make maintenance a breeze. Acrylic cushions are resistant to fading, mold, mildew, water, and harmful UV rays.
Here's how you should care for Sunbrella® and other 100% acrylic outdoor cushions to keep them in the best shape:
Clean with mild soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly. Do not use abrasive cleaners or bleach. For more stubborn stains refer to the Sunbrella® Stain Chart.
Polyester Cushions
Clean with mild soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly. Do not use abrasive cleaners or bleach.
PVC and Slings
Clean with mild soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
Wiping up minor spills immediately with mild soap and warm water, using a soft cloth. Although these fabrics have been treated to resist stains, it may become necessary over time to use commercially available cleaners; always follow the manufacturer's instructions. Cushions and slings are best maintained by covering with a commercially available furniture cover when not in use, especially in an area with birds and trees nearby.
Glass Tops
Use mild soap and water or commercially available glass cleaners. Do not use cleansers or abrasive materials.
Stone Tops
Your stone tabletop has been sealed, but still needs regular care. Clean the tabletop with a soft, clean, colorfast cloth or sponge using warm water and mild dish soap. NEVER use scouring creams or abrasive cleaners that may scratch the sealed finish. Any accidental spills should be cleaned immediately. Wipe with a damp cloth. Maintain the protective sealer by resealing at least once a season.
